This photo was taken in 1905 . The owner who had the house built was Wiiliam Latham, his family lived there until 1912. This is the house that was next to the cherry gardens pub .

Stunning property, Mr Latham must have had a few quid. Great photo.

Is this the house at the top of Leyland mill lane /Wigan Lane??? Which is slowly crumbling away?

Comment by: Peter Francis on 29th March 2015 at 23:35

This house was demolished several years ago, and the accountancy company Fairhurst now have offices on this site.

Didn't this become at one time the first, or one of the first, old people's homes run by Wigan Council?

The house wasn't demolished but extended. You can still clearly see its external features.

I've got a map from the fantastic Scottish map site. It shows Bank House on the opposite side of the road. Map dates 1888-1913. I'll try to put a screen shot on but this is the website address. What do you think? http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17&lat=53.5610&lon=-2.6318&layers=171
