David, is this the Lodge where we used to swim in the hot weather in the 1950/60s or was it on the other side of the road.

I think it was this one, now filed in. The sides were fairly shallow. The one on the other side of the railway, still there, was known as the 'clay pit' to us and was very deep. We were told to stay well away from that one.
Superb picture Dave. This is the lodge I remember. Dave, was there a smaller lodge close by as well? Got a vague memory but could be wrong. We used to swim in a lake somewhere near/before Martland Mill. Great to see the Lodge again, this is just how I remember it with someone fishing. Cheers Dave, great memory.
There was a smaller lodge on the other side of the railway crossing next to the clay pit lodge, Scot Lane now runs along where that was. Kas are you thinking of the Red Pond which was in the fields beyond Martland Mill Farm, it looked to be red because of the red pit shale on the bottom.
Maybe Cyril , thankyou . The jigsaws of memory take longer sometimes as we get older.
Houses are still there and parents still live in one I lived in another also gran used to live in one at bottom of row.when they were filling it in it was a dumping ground for half of Wigan we used to push old cars out and watch them sink into the water.
