There used to be a lot of brickworks in the area, Orrell Brick and Tile, Bispham, in UpHolland there was Lawns (Tontine) Pimbo and Ravenhead and some smaller ones. The only one still going is Ravenhead which has passed through several owners over the years.

I’m curious Mike - when was the house built? We found the same kind of brick in our garden. Our house was newly built in 1996 but we didn’t think a property had stood in this area previously

we walked near the site of the old red houses at entrance to Gidlow Cemetery today found identical bricks plus some others with date 1912.

The 1912 brick will almost certainly be from Chorley.and The Withnell brick co. 1912 was part of the company name.

Ravenhead closed down in 2023. I suppose rising gas prices had a hand in the closure.
