It may be a nice photo but it isn't Wigan...
If it's Golborne it's in the metropolitan borough of Wigan.
Golborne must have been a lovely place back in the day. I have seen some beautiful pics of it. Apparently this is Dean dam, Rob Lane, Golborne.
The M6 Motorway now passes just feet from were this photo was taken.
WAS IT A WISHING WELL OR WAS IT AN AIR VENT FOR THE COAL MINES SOME YEARS AGO INTERESTING GREAT PHOTO HARRY.
It probably is Dean Dam Woods I remember a small cottage that had an inscription over the door it was in old English and made reference to one John Stirrup, there was also a freshwater spring to the rear.
Unless you put "Golborne Lancashire" when searching, you get Golborne in North West London. Maybe it's Dean Dam though?
I think that may be Old Woman's Well, near Castle Hill, Newton le Willows, Golborne boundary
