This Part Is Where The Hospital Was Is Under Wigan
The part where the hospital was is Higher End
All of Billinge, both Higher End and Chapel End, has come under the aegis of Wigan in the past. The church was originally a Chapel of Ease within Wigan parish, and Billinge was also the responsibility of the Wigan Board of Guardians.
The ties between the two places are undeniable.
Are those petrol pumps at either end of the wall in front of the telegraph pole?
This is no where near the hospital just to the right of this picture is the stork pub.

That is a petrol pump behind the dome shaped stone,which is still there today.The petrol was Cleveland and was there until the late 50s. The shop to the right is now De Roma Icecream Parlour. Eagle and Child pub on the left. The photo must have been taken from in front of the Stork Hotel.
