Ellor's outfitters on the corner of the Makinson Arcade.
Remember my parents saying they were going to Ellor's to get me a tie for the walking day, and it confusing the hell out of me because I thought they meant Heller's furnishers on the corner of King St West.

Ellor's was one of two small shops between Pendlebury's and Marks and Spencer. They specialised in men's caps and hats at a time when most men wore one or the other.

Ellor's was one of two small shops wedged between Pendlebury's and Marks & Spencer. Think the other one was a shoe shop. Ellor's sold menswear and specialised in men's hats and caps at a time when most older men wore either one or the other. A shop I remember being at the top of Makinson Arcade was Raniker's who mainly sold rainwear.

The shop on the left hand side of the arcade entrance has a sign which clearly says Ellors, and the adverts in the upstairs windows of the shop look as though they say the same.
I remember them being there all around 1963 or 1964.

At the top of Makinson Arcade are Ellor & Co, left hand side, Jas Mayer on the right

Apologies everyone, I had completely missed the obvious evidence in the photograph that Ellor's was at the top of the Makinson Arcade. Could this have been a second branch to the one I mentioned in Standishgate, or perhaps they moved to this location following the disastrous fire' after which Pendlebury's was rebuilt?
