Great photo this one. I notice the sign on the platform says Golborne South. Golborne used to have two stations, the other one being Golborne North which was where Murphy's yard is now on Wigan Road, the A573, about a mile or so from Dover Lock.
The station was an all timber construction and painted white. I've never seen a photo of this, so can anyone help?

I know the other station was off Wigan road and I never saw it but I remember playing in the old signal box that was near it, the old line goes past the back of my house and it still gets maintained in case the Kelbits site opens again, its only in recent years the line is unused.

Stations close because they dont get used.

I don't think Golborne station closed by not being used it was Mr Beeching in the 1960s who was told to close some down to save money, and the area is much bigger now so I'm sure it would get used now.
