Austerity WD Class 8F 2-8-0 No.70876 on a freight train Whelley Line,Ince August 1951.What is particularly interesting about this shot is the loco,built in September 1944 by North British Loco Co.,Glasgow,is still carrying its original War Department No.having been obtained by the then British Railways in December 1948.It was subsequently renumbered 90343 in November 1952.

We knew them as Dub D'S. Wonderful workhorses and apparently favoured by firemen. Regular around Wigan in the sixties.

Austerity cheap engine made in 2nd world war. Driver and firemen hated them.
