The remains of No 2 Pit. This was the upcast shaft (where air was drawn out of the pit by a large fan).

Loz. I am fairly certain that whilst serving in Germany, in 1955/56. I read in an English newspaper that the Maypole colliery was being closed down. At No2 pit, the under manager, when I left was, Jack Roberts. The two chargemen were a young chap, who they referred to as Whacker, and an elderly man named Ted Rogers. The chief clerk was Orrell Battersby. Johnny Dale was the under manager at No 1 Pit. A Mr Fairhurst was the mine manager. Frank Pelly was the union man, excellent at his job.
