As a young lad, this was my playground. We were banned by our parents of course but this made it all the more exciting. "28daylater" says these photos were taken in 1970.

me too used to love sliding down the slag heap on cardboard bet that scrap iron would be there now ha ha ha

We used to go over there with the ferret in the late 60's plenty of rabbits if you was not careful you could loose you ferret.

These images are great, I have a memory of walking across here with my brother when I was very young, I was born in 1971 so it would have been a few years after these pics 74-76 , the place was empty and spooky, I had a nightmare that night based around it but it's great to see again, thanks for sharing.

we used to play over there on the yoyo and the woods cant remember the name we called the woods

Dianne: The woods was known as "The Sleepy Valley"...We used to go there with Mr Cottam. He used to gather nettles, take them home, and make nettle beer...Happy walks, happy days...We didn't have a dime...

we used to call it haunted woods .there used to be an old house in there and everybody used to say there was an hand in there that was alive or so they said that was in the late sixties good times

it was called the haunted woods there was a brook there we used to have a swing going over the brook happy days

Paul: That was the legend of The Green Hand. When I attended Highfield School, some lads would go down at dinnertime to have a look around...One lad used to call it "Green Mon"...Happy days on 1966...

I wish it was still there no psp and x boxes back then just one long adventure spent yrs over there on bmx s and grifter it brillant please put more pics up some of the valley and tin mine ?

this is where we played out as kids great memories always kept of at night because of red cloggs
