I used to live in the maisonettes at the top of this photo see ING this photo has taken me back 35 years I used to breakdance on the green in the early 80s worsley mesnes was a brilliant place to live children of today have no idea fishing in the flashes swimming in the canals I live in ramsgate kent now but I'll always remember my time in wigan

The maisonettes were the worst to be built they just reminded me of barracks! No wonder they were demolished! The sixties ideas on building were monstrous - !

My uncle's uncle, Isaiah Whitton (1898-1987) was probably the oldest person who lived in the maisonettes at 21 Baucher Road. There were two blocks, the odd numbers were demolished in 1984, and the even numbers that can be seen went in 1989. These flats were identical to those in Scholes and Dumbarton Green, Beech Hill that went a bit later.
