Remember all this and was up the pemberton M6 and they took the M58 from there god known and love the sound of them engines screaming.
great pic, brings back some good memories, i think the rally came through haigh hall twice, i remember standing further down from the hall at the other side of the canal bridge and hearing the marshalls blow there whistles when a car was coming, great times
Stig Blomqvist, and Bjorn Cederberg, in their Group B (later to be banned) Audi Quattro A2 driving for the factory Audi Sport UK Team, who went on to win the rally. One of the fastest rally cars ever built
I had a day from school to see the rally. It was worth it.
You are correct Rob, it was staged again in 1984, it got a bit dodgy on the bends for spectators. H.
Oh, so was it one of these cars that hit the iron railway bridge that was repaired only recently, took a long time for their insurance to pay out if it was.
Nice one Harry.
the full report and video of the 1983 rac rall can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmdTH4vehV4
I worked at haigh hall in 1984(in the plantations on one of them £45 a week government schemes)and we were given the afternoon off to watch this.it would never happen now with all the health and safety stuff
