Was it to do with latics fans living in mud huts.
This was a proposed experiment. The idea was to build a iron medieval settlement?. A family was to live in the hut for a year? and see if they could survive using only those items available at the time . The project was promoted by the director of leisure at the time. Gill Swift. The project fell flat because they forgot to apply for planning permission to build the hut. As a result the project had to be abandoned.
I believe Ancient Brits/Celts lived in these 'round houses'. There is the remains of a settlement, made up of this type of dwelling on the outskirts of Dornoch, Scotland & they were much bigger than the one pictured.
As I recall Gill Swift also had the Deer in the "zoo" shot and served them as venison in the Restaurant.
Thanks for the ifo Tim. H.
Helen: I think the one in this pic. is not particularly authentic!
I Actually helped to build this hut in 1985. I was working for the Greater Manchester Archaeology unit based at Manchester university at the time- the best job I've ever had. We were filmed for the local BBC news too. Great memories.
