Many Wigan fans will remember this alleyway.

Boy did I feel my age a couple of years ago walking down the alleyway when a workman stopped repairing the wall and said "come on missus". I just laughed and thanked him but I would have felt a bit younger if he had wolf whistled. Bah humbug to these idiots who want to stop workmen whistling at us ladies.

My cousin got me a job in the Royal Oak and said "you'll know when the match finishes as it will be like star trek in here - you'll turn around and they'll be five deep at the bar like they've all just beamed in!".... He wasn't wrong!

My mum's just told me that they used to walk down this alleyway, from Wigan Girls High School to St. Georges school for their cookery lessons.

Is that the alley from Colin St?

Comment by: Betty on 10th March 2012 at 19:25

It ran from Standishgate to Hilton street.

It looks as if someone stood in the middle, and did a Jimmy Riddle.

St Marys on the left, wonder if the "tunnels" are still there?

I remember walking back to School at 2pm with my friend Jennifer Moss. We went down the side of Wigan Little Theatre, crossed over the Road and past the Rugby Ground but by the time we got to this part we had dawdled and chatted so much that we were late. We had to run like hell the rest of the way. So sad she is no longer with us.

Is that the Jennifer Moss who was in Coronation St.?
