I used to love this cinema. I went with my Dad to see "Scott of the Antartic". I know where I was sitting, but not the film I had come to see, nor who I was with, what I do remember was the News item - the entry of the British troops into Belsen. Those pictures I have never forgotten. I was only a 9 year old at the time.
So,so sad.
not much notice being taken about double yellows.
Sad looking street, even worse looking when it was the raining.
all the cars on the yellow lines are blue badges . nuff said,
ABC minors Saturday mornings
I reckon everybody who ever went to the old Ritz must miss it, everybody has a happy memory of going there.
We went to a big band concert there when it was still a full sized cinema. The band was Syd Lawrence and he used to play in the Glenn Miller style. A real pity that this concert venue couldn't have been saved
Does anyone remember going to see the film of the ascent of Everest around the time of the Queens Coronation? We were taken from school to see it, it seemed to go on for ages!!
went to see roy orbison there late 50s
Roy's first UK tour started at the Adelphi, Slough on 18 May 1963. He was touring with the Beatles who had just started to become famous.
yea it does look like a sad st but it never used to be does anyone remember oxleys, and i got my engagement ring from think jameses jewellersand although my ring is lost i still have the box with the name and adress inside station rd .i have been to that cinema a thousand times ,the excorsist, the sound of music, the ten comandments etc, but best of all the beatles live, with gene pitney, deon warick, and more!!!!! the queue up the street all round woolworths for tickets was amazeing we had never seen owt like that in wigan before so not sutch a boring st in 60s anyway.
