This wharf on the Leeds Liverpool canal at Gathurst belonged to the old Roburite explosives works.
I remember the little railway line leading from the works to the main line at Gathurst station. My mother told me she worked there during the war and when there was an air raid they put the workers in a shed for safety...it was full of explosives..!!
