Gibson and Young had a warehouse on the left, and there was also Burns's glaziers and the slaughterhouse.

Congratulated Duncan on recording these excellent Wigan scenes, ordinary and mundane they may have been but they are records you have had the foresight to rescue at the last minute before they disappeared forever and for that I'm sure all true Wiganers will be grateful.

There was a slaughter house lower down on the left, no doubt someone will know thename<g> You could also access this yard from Market Street. This photo is taken from Hallgate

This alleyway was called Crofters Yard, probably from the pubs name.

The slaughter house at the side of Gibson & Youngs glass warehouse, was Kings, who had a butchers shop on Market St.
A bit primitive, they used a landrover & chain the skin the beasts (tied to an anchor post). I used to go pretty regularly to G&Y's for glassware for the club
