The Waterheyes works near Central Park was demolished and the site redeveloped.

Thanks for posting - as an old ex-Wiganer I've often heard mention of Water Heyes and wasn't able to bring it to mind - now I can. Just out of interest have you taken all these photos of Wigan yourself? The quality is excellent.

Water Heys Mill was in this vicinity wasn't it? All I know is that the Eckersley's owned it along with Swan Meadow.

Walter, I took a lot of these photos in the late 80s and early 90s when Wigan was changing radically. I had a bike, a camera (Pentax me super) and a bit of spare time. Thanks to you Walter, Fred and everybody for your kind comments.

I used to walk along here most days on the way back to the Ritz to catch the bus, after calling at hiltons for a penny vimto lolly.
There was a small bridge probably just where the photo was taken.

Water heyes produced flameproof lighting & switching equipment for coalmines, petroleum product producers, etc.
The Naylors Spiralarm miners safety lamp was one of their products, I believe

I lived in Greenough st, I must have walked this way thousands of times, Used as short cut to get to town centre,

How i remember this well.i was an appentice mechanic at S&S Motors the Rootes Agent,we used to nip to the shops in Greenough St over the little bridge which is just out of site on the left,We used to service the Bedford wagon from Water Heyes.The driver was Tommy Horton his son owns First Class Motors in Wigan (Miry Lane)
