This cobbled brow went between Church Street and Higher lane UpHolland and was the access for the village school. The main School building was on the left and the wooden hut on the right one of the annexed buildings. Houses visible at the top of the slope are on Higher Lane. The cobbles were treacherous in the winter when there was snow or ice though fun sliding down! The school moved to Mill Lane in 1969 though some classes were held in the old school - which also served as parish hall till the mid 70s. By the early 90s the site was derelict, the old school building was converted to housing, the surrounding play ground and annexes including the cobbles were swept away and modern houses built on the site.

I presume all of you remember the teachers from the 1950s ... Mrs Selsby, Mr Blinston, Mr Ramsey, Miss Livesey and headmaster Mr Bamforth??

I can remember some of the teachers in the 60s, Mrs Selsby remarried and became Mrs Hall, then there was Mr Green, Mr Hart the headmaster, Mrs Edwards nee Williamson?, Miss Gladwin, Miss Starkey, Mrs Wilkinson, Mrs Parker, Mr Dobson, Mrs Holcroft nee Bradshaw, or was it the other way around. I also seem to remember a Mrs Parry and a Mrs Winstanley who may have been there a short time.

MMMM Miss Starkey that brings back some memories. Didn't hit it off with her at the beginning as I was a little bugger. Mainly a torment, not liked....lol. Live and learn...still doing that. Remember clearing the snow from top to bottom in the 60's , then giving out the milk to my class mates. Good times.....
