The pictures that have recently appeared on here from Syd and Trevors archive without doubt need making into a pictoral book of Wigan gone by. I for one would but it. Fantastic pictures chaps, more of the same please
I remember when Oliver Somers was down at the other end of Mesnes Street; I got my Brownie uniform from there, and I wonder how many Wigan children wondered how Father Christmas managed to get down their chimney carrying a bike from Oliver Somers'?!
I agree Standisher. What a Treasure Trove these photos are, than you to the Smiths for sharing them for all to see.
Think this was Tom Hughes old shop that Oliver Somers took over and they had the shop at the other end of Mesnes Street at the same time. Also remember the herbalist shop, used to go there to buy stuff for making ginger beer!
fantastic picture which brings back many happy memories of my dad. Does anyone remember the michelin man that used to sit in the top window? He caused many people to look up - I wish I knew where he went
I had a Saturday job in Times Craft Centre on Mesnes Street in the 80's. I loved it there with Alan, Barbara, Anne, Joan, Kath & David. Happy memories.
I too remember the michelin man that used hang on the front of the building. It's funny when you can still remember little things like that!
