Wasn't the building that is Morrison's on this pic previously Whelan's, owned by Dave Whelan?

Oh Dear, you are giving me a morning ! I waited for the bus to Ormskirk here and I went to the dance school in one of those buildings at the back, it was upstairs. I was there for tap dancing lessons & we bought my red tap shoes, complete with red ribbons at a shop in the Little Arcade. Love these pics. When you're young you never think you will be nostalgic about times gone by but its just around the corner waiting to pounce on you !

Looking at this photo again, except for the Ribble bus, it could be a scene from a war zone.

when Dave Whelan had his supermarket, there used to be an amusment arcade next door owned by Ken Cowap,i used to spend a bit of time in there, never won very much.

Wigan Market Square deserted apart from the Ribble Leyland National bus. I think this will be a Wigan or Skelmersdale depot bus going to Ormskirk or Southport. Further back were the Preston and Blackburn routes. If it was a Blackburn depot bus, on other days it would be crossing the moors on the Bolton to Clitheroe, Preston to Rochdale via Blackburn and Rawtenstall, or Blackburn to Manchester via Accrington, Haslingden and Bury routes.
If it was a Preston depot bus it would operate to nearly every town in Lancashire: Liverpool, Ormskirk, Southport, Chorley, Lytham St Annes, Blackpool, Fleetwood, Lancaster, Morecambe, Clitheroe, Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Manchester, Bolton and of course Wigan!!!!
