Inside the old glasshouses at Haigh Hall September 1971

The plants in those hothouses were superb, and each one had its own aroma depending on the species of flowers that were in there. It was a sad day when the council decided to demolish them, and another blunder by the incompetent fools in office.

Beautiful... Those were the days!! Everything about Haigh Hall Plantations was just beautiful.. Everything was taken good care of and everyone had respect for everything, parents made sure of that, unlike today when so many children are allowed to run amock ...

It was under Wigan Corporation's control, that's why it was much better. In 1974, all local councils merged into one known as Wigan Metro, then things started to change...

There lovely if your looking at them with your rose tinted specs on, but the only memories like been already.
Tell the truth how many of you would be down there today with you grandkids if the council had have spent thousands and thousands of pounds on them to keep them going.

You must be a real barrel of laughs at parties Mick. I for one spent many happy times at Haigh Hall with my young son. He learned all about history, horticulture, steam trains, golf, nature, animals, and wildlife as well as receiving plenty exercise and vitamin D. Perhaps you are right and perhaps that is why society has decended into the "me" culture of materialism and dis-respect.

Regards
