This turned up in a batch of old photos. A bit of research on Wigan World indicated this was Hawkley Hall from the existing photos on that section of the site. Not a good quality photo, but shows the Hall from a slightly different angle.

There must have been a fair few big mansions like this. There is/was one on the left of the main road, the Orrell side of Pemberton. It had a little square lodgehouse at the gate. Can anyone help with a name ?

It really looks a beautiful place to live..what a pity it is no more.

Hawkley Hall was a Jacobean-style building it was used as a farmhouse, but what little bit of rural atmosphere it had, was gradully swallowed up by private housing developments.
Other valuable Properties: Arley Hall, Heskin New Hall Standish Hall.

We would nick the crab apples from the trees seen here...

I remember Hawkley Hall being in ruins when I was little. It must have been pretty impressive before it fell apart.

My mother in law Pat, used to be Pat Sisson, is the stepdaughter of Jack Jameson, Brendas dad.

In the early 60's we used to go there bonfire night late on and get last of the pears which where left on the trees this was on the drive way front of the house and got chased many a time. Also the pears at St Margrets home nere St Pauls church great days where they.

In 1964/5 I used to deliver papers to the hall. It looks pretty much as I remember it in this pic.
