The pub was named The Windmill but known locally as Top Long Pull, the pic is looking down Greenough Street.

My grandparents had the Windmill pub and left in 1965 when the pub was demolished shortly after.

My great grandfather James Jolley was tenant landlord of The Windmill during the 1930s. During the war the methodist church which was next door to the pub was hit by a bomb. This was apparently from a plane on its way back to Germany. The church was destroyed but fortunately a meeting that had just taken place had finished, ensuring the church was empty and therefore there were no casualties.
My grandparents, Margaret and William Layland lived on the opposite side of the road at 9a Greenough Street. When the bomb dropped their windows were shattered. Afterwards the bomb site made an excellent playing area and was greatly enjoyed by my mum, her twin brother and her friends.
