cracker that lyndon, the iron bridge and station house bring back good memories.
Lyndon, am I right in saying that steam was replaced by DMUs in 1959 on passenger services between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime St?
Hi Derek; if memory serves DMU's took over from Jan.1st. 1959
Thanks Lyndon, for confirming my memory of when steam was overtaken by diesel on this route.
i remember the steam trains .we lived victoria road an me and my pals played in the fields opposite an the train driver wud wave to us as they went over the bridge.my uncle norman worked in the signalbox for a while.wish these days could return when garswood was just a small village
Great photo. yes, I can imagine Garswood back then being a small village, but of course the influx of people from other areas like Liverpool likely spoiled that. There are just too many houses around now.
The last train of the day from Lime Street (10.35pm) was still steam-hauled in 1966 and 1967 when I lived in Garswood.
