The stonework has since been covered up by painting - looks awful and dirty and costs a bomb to repaint every 20 years or so. The 'church was dark' was the reason! Better lighting would have been much more effective and much cheaper! The stunning Minton tiles have also been covered up in front of the screen with carpet (some of them irreparably damaged in the process).
