It seems that red lion pubs was popular back then, there are 10 in wigan and surrounding areas.

Where was the Red Lion in North Ashton , I have only ever known of 2 in area , that is the one in Gerard Street and the one at the top of Landgate neat to where Cranberry hotel used to be .
