You never get tired of seeing the Whelley and Boars head railway line at Douglas Valley...just beauty. Thank you Allan.
Hi Dave, I did not intend to duplicate a photo already on this site, I did look through the ‘places’ page but not ‘assorted’, railways, page 8. Living south of Wigan I’m not familiar with the Douglas Valley and to me the bridges could have been rail, road or canal. Perhaps if we could list a photo in more than one category when posting there would be less duplication, to me this is a view of Douglas valley and that’s the category I’ve put it in. I apologise now for this and any future duplicates I post on here.
Allan... it happens all the time , dont worrie about it!
Alan not your fault as if I had an old photo to upload one thing I wouldn't was to see in anyone had uploaded it before, their should be something in the upload page that would stop duplicate photo's being uploaded again so just keep posting good old photo's
I agree, don't lose any sleep over this Alan, it's sometimes difficult to try to determine if a picture is already "up" with so many categories on WW; and in any event what a good opportunity to gaze again at those two magnificent viaducts. The original one to the right is about eighty feet above the valley floor! I imagine that the girders were jacked up off the valley floor - just like Robert Stephenson did with his fabulous Tubular bridges at Conwy and Menai. Just imagine the back breaking labour involved in doing that and all for a few shillings a day. Truly we live in the shadow of giants!!
I may have got the boars Head line confused with the Red Rock line... or is it the same ?
