Evening post. Bickershaw Miners go back to work after strike

My dad was a miner who died at the age of 53 in 1969. I asked if I could see conditions in which he worked and went down Bickershaw Colliery. Am amazing experience and it was only after seeing the conditions, I understood why sometimes he would get ready to go to work and decided against it at the last minute. The miners I met and photographed were a great bunch of lads and the photos I took appeared in an article in Amateur Photographer three years later. After my visit, a full page article appeared in the Wigan Observer and I recall the first line..."The miners strike is over. The men have gone back to work."
All a long time ago.
