Looking really sorry for itself - Hindley market fenced in because of vandalism. It never really recovered and went into total decline. (Could Tesco have something to do with it?)

This is so sad! I can remember going to Hindley Market as a very young child with my Mam on Fridays, and going round after school when I was at Hindley Grammar in the mid-sixties. It was a noisy, lively and colourful scene, and look at it now.....

Muppet! Tesco came years later!

I think Bill may be more or less right about Tesco as the market only went in to full decline after Tesco opened up. Co-op probably started it, but Tesco finished it.
At least it looks a bit better now that its an unfenced car park.

Efforts are to be made in an attempt to restart the market in Hindley, but let it be known, IT IS YOU THAT ARE TO BLAME FOR ITS DEMISE BY NOT USING IT! Tesco - rubbish at high prices.

I lived opposite the market between the GPO and the ambulance station and watched it´s decline, no different to the rest of Hindley. Anyone who still lives there is a hero in my book.
