The Court Theatre was opened on the 20th November 1886.It cost £18,000 to build including the site.In 1930 projection equipment was installed but one last live show was staged that year,a musical called Mr Cinders. In 1936 the interior was remodelled. The stage boxes removed, the proscenium arch moved back 20 feet to enlarge the seating capacity of the stalls, and a fine cinema organ was installed.Wigan had lost a fine live theatre. The buildings life as a cinema lasted until 1974.
