This photo was taken at the bottom of Bradshaw Street (Bottling Wood) in front of the Old folks home which used to be there (Woodlands).

(L to R) Kevin Eaton; Gerard Howe (my big Bro); Peter Cox (now, sadly no longer with us); Chris Leyland.

I guess the photo was taken about 1980/81. Me and the lads I knocked around with were all about 7-10 years younger, hence, they were tha big lads!

I used to go to secondary school with a Peter Fox 1973-78. A few years later I watching "Thats Life" with Esther Rantzen who was reporting on diving into shallow swimming pools abroad and low and behold a picture of Peter appeared in a wheelchair after breaking either his back or neck. Is this the same Peter Cox?

Yes, it is the same Peter Cox. He dived into the boating lake at Southport and broke his neck. There wern't any signs saying the water was shallow. He was a great bloke, a loveable rogue!

Robert youre right about Peter being a loveable rogue he got me in trouble a number of times at school brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. I was not aware that Peter had died, was his passing as a result of the accident?

Yes sadly, although not straight away, he spent quite a few years in a wheelchair. He and my brother Gerard were closer than I was. Our Gerard was born only a day away from Peter and his twin sister Wendy. He had a great send off, there was a lot of drinking and a lot of really good stories told about Peter and his antics (the one about him robbing his own pre-payment electric meter to pay a fine - all in 50p peices!!! - He then reported the robbery!!!)

Sounds as though he never changed Robert. Glad you gave him a great send off. Thanks for putting this photo on and putting a smile on my face even through adversity.
