By my guess that photo is taken up the top end of the wood as I think that is a pipe in the background. Interesting to see how bare it is and how it has changed in 50 years.
Detritus , Not a pipe, thats a wooden bridge, Where did you get pipe from,
got stuck in the mud in there about 1976 never been since.
Igf it is where I am thinking there is now a pipe that runs through that part of the wood. The part I am thinking is as you come into the wood from the British Legion side. That said it could be the bottom end of the wood coming from the side that Ayrefield Wood is on. Which is it?
If you enter the wood from the 'Orrell Legion' footpath, there is now a wooden footbridge crossing the stream. Prior to the bridge being there, and going back to the 1960's the stream was alwayd crossed at this point by a fallen tree trunk. Could this be what can be seen on this pic.?
The wood has become far more overgrown with small oak and hazel trees at this location over the last forty years.
