End of a narrow tunnel constructed probably c1800 to drain water from the Winstanley coal mines. It drains into Smithy Brook about 150 yards to the NW of Pony Dick.

there is also a sough at whelley called haigh sough flows into yellow brook in plantations

I have just found one of these when looking for drains at island dam at windy arbour the fishing lake has been flooded now for 7 months
