Painting by John Fouracre from a description by his dad, Sam Fouracre. Ryland's mill was a tythe mill, probably some 400 years old, behind the wall opposite side of Hall Lane from Ryland's Mill Farm at Pony Dick (i.e. to the right of the entrance to Winstanley Hall). It was demolished in 1927. A pond was created to store water from Smithy Brook coming down from the Summersales and water coming down from the Figure 8 pond up Hall Lane in Winstanley Estate.
