Dougie and Betty still live in the same house in Higher Lane. The last time I saw Betty she still looked the same as she did in this photo not a day older.
If I had a pound for every pint I've supped with Dougie, I'd be a very rich man indeed.
Perhaps Freddie Fairhurst on extreme right of pic.
known doug and bet for years, saw him in thowd dog a couple of weeks ago and as usual he'd had a lot of medicine,so much so he had to be taken home.great couple.i remember about 25 or so years ago i was playing with a folk group called crispen brown and we invited doug and Bet to come and watch us in warrington,i said that i would pick them up at their house.i stopped at the front and pipped my horn, and out came doug and Bet wearing stetsons, frilly suade jackets and cowboy boots, doug also had a replica six shooter as well.it still kills me laughing every time i think of it.can you imagine doug after a few pints shouting shouting yahoo in a folk club and getting up dancing.what a great guy
If my memory serves me Dougie once laughed at my Dad for drinking cider as it was only apples {Old English} so him and one of his mates agreed to drink pints of old english in stead of there normal bitter. I under stand Betty was not to pleased as one of them went accross the road and split there head open........good time had by all..! My Dad was Colin Pearce.
ive never known a bloke get more placid the more he drinks.and more of a gymnast to boot
My dad drinks with dougie in the Vic in upholland, I told him to let him know there's a picture on here of him and his wife.
