Now this is a 'blast from the past' Janice. How I well remember going down to Pye's shop on an errand for my Mum and being able to buy 2 black jacks or 2 fruit salad chews for 1d. Glorious days.
Hope you are well, so good to see you at the reunion.
great photo janice i remember those pekinese dogs that used to come yapping soon as you opened the front door .see winnie about quite often.
It was me that found Jack Pye dead.
Thanks were fine Sue, good to see you as well. I promised you a photo of Chapel St. Only been able to find one but it only shows the end house near Hilton St.I will put it on the album for you to look at.
What memories of Pye's shop - especially taking back pop bottles for the pennies. Also remember all the other shops in Rectory Road - Evans's,Daintith's,Deacon's,Sudworth's and the Coop.Who needed Tesco back then?
Dont forget Mr Howarth's the wool shop, old Mr Crompton who used to have the post office when it was across the road from the church hall next to the Blue Bell, the chip shop at the top of Rectory Road, which I think had a link to the Jones family. There was someone else before but I cant remember their names and on the estate Teddy Sutton's wife used to make pies and sell them from her house. Teddy had an ex army lorry painted green with which he used to move ash from the local pits to building sites. memories.
Does anyone remember the hairdressers at the back of the shop, you went down the side, I know that Edna Brogan nee Selby worked there
