1st a set of 10 I will be posting.

I wonder what state the place is in now. had it been in a more popular part of the country it would have been 'saved for the nation'

fantastic photographs jack. i used to take my son nephew and niece there for walks along with the peacocks. they have built houses on the field near to the main enterance and main road. such a shame.

We can be grateful the College didn't fall within the remit of Wigan Borough Council. If it had done, there'd be a multi storey car park, and a white elephant of a shopping mall there now.

Is this the place that was/is down the road ( Roby Mill ) from the hairpin bend at Upholland? Anybody got pics of it now? Sounds as if it has escaped demolition by Wigan Borough Council.

I also enjoyed this set of photos.. thank you Jack, I went there with my father as a child, but always had to wait outside.

Mike,
yes it is just before Roby Mill it is within WLDC so does escape Wigan. I believe the main body of the building has sbeen retained but other development has and is to take place. It of course was in the ownership of the Liverpool RC Archdiocese in it's day but I am not sure who owns it now.

One thing to mention in the College history is that Pope John Paul stayed there when he visited the NW in 1982.
he flew into the grounds by helicopter not sure it was public knowledge at the time because of security .
