Hi Alan another great photo. Again, can you send me a bigger sized scan of the postcard?
These courts were at the bottom of the Highfield Cricket Club field, When we were teenagers in 1951 we were given the job of repairing the netting that surrounded them, so that we could use them. They disappeared when the cricket field was levelled off a few years ago
Great pic Allan, I worked at May in the 60s.
Ive been hit a time or 2 into tennis courts eh Jimmy
There was also a grass tennis court just above it at the side of Highfield Cricket field. Everything was provided by Colonel Blundell of Blundell's Colliery, as well as the bowling greens behind the Railway Hotel. All left to Highfield Cricket Club in 1947 when the Colliery shut. He also gave Alexandra Park and the Bowling Greens opposite, to the Corporation.Would be grateful for any old photos of Highfield for Church Magazine articles.
