Princess Margaret on a visit to Lancashire towns in March 1950, arrives at Wigan Town Hall for tea. She was greeted by the Mayor, Councillor W Higham (seen near the Belisha Beacon wearing his chain of office).
A tv bioptic of Margaret's life was shown recently, contradicting many of the commonly held assumptions held about her. A view probably shaped by the British press who seemed to delight in searching for "sensational" stories.
After tea at the Town Hall, Margaret joined the Royal train at the North-Western station, Wigan.
