A photograph I took some 67 years ago when I was 10 years of age. My father Jack Bowen, tenant landlord of the old Crispin Arms, Birkett Bank seen here with some of the "regular" Sunday afternoon customers at closing time around 2.30pm.
Although I've posted it previously eleven years ago I'm now able to identify (with help) some of the customer names, and although I can remember all their faces several names escape me.
The latest person to help was Joyce who named her uncle Bob Burgess, who lived in Lorne Street with his wife Ethel.

Thank you winnie, very interesting to me. Kirkless Street was/is very close to the Crispin.

Look at all their happy smiling faces! Two or three pints, a game of fives and threes or perhaps darts then off home to a Sunday tea. Simple pleasures but they deserved every minute.

I’m practically sure Jack Ashcroft lived in that vicinity Ernie Ashcroft’s father. He was our tunneller gangs fireman, at the Maypole Colliery, early to middle fifties.
