This one is made for Maureen ! I love hearing her memories of growing up here.Thanks again Maureen for the fabulous painting you so kindly gave me yesterday, it's superb !

And yes I must go to Gallimores to have a look at this wonderful painting..I was brought up in this Street..our house was just further up to the right..but the memories it brings back are priceless..as my Mam got older she asked if I felt as if I had missed out on not having a garden or flowers or trees around us..my reply was..I couldn't have had a better childhood anywhere else..I loved the place and we still drive down it coming from "The Range"in Chapel Lane...thank you Keith for putting it on here..you've made my day.

What a great painting. My mam was born in this street if ever I pass there I always think about her. It also resembles 'any' street around Wigan that I recall in my childhood days.

Come to think of it - the painting looks quite like Hardybutts past St Pat's Church leading to Birkett Bank! How I recall it in the fifties especially the small terraced housing on the left. The artist has put quite a few things in it- horse and cart, neighbours gossiping, lady mopping the step and the children. That little child wearing oversized shoes of her mam's - that's something we did as children! Very talented lady!

My Grandma lived in School st, and this picture reminds me of it. Great painting.

No Marie that isn't me,but...the little girl with the dark dress on has my face and hairstyle.its weird how similar to me she looks.

Maureen, I was hoping you would see this! I would have emailed you to say it was on here but I had to go to the hospital and was running late. My three favourite ladies, Maureen, Elizabeth and Veronica, all on one post. Cheered me up after after a traumatic day. Wonderful, nostalgic picture. x.

I like how the young lad had decided to shuffle his car along, instead of pedalling it, but I'm afraid that the poor horse would had to have been brought back to distances much shorter than those which it had evidently been exposed to - its handler seems to have been wearing the 'In' Donkey jacket, though. A nice image. Thanks.

i used to play rugby union in the 60/70s for turner bros of hindley green with a keith becket. if this is the same keith becket,i wood like to get in touch with you to have a chat about old times. joe

to MarieM where abouts in Miry Lane did you live ? I used to live at no 20 next door to my grandma, . What fab photos, brings back loads of GOOD memories.

In the late fifties, on the opposite of Wallgate, I believe Queen street, a rag and bone man’s horse dropped dead. A more appropriate description of the horse’s removal from the scene could have been entered in the occurrence book. “It was carted off by the knackers”.
