The main road shown ie running from the top to the bottom of the photo is surely Warrington Road, although Darlington Street is visible right at the very top of the shot running under the railway line which would have gone to the old Wigan Central station.

Just missing Harper St were my grandparents lived Mr & Mrs Fillingham and Roy Pitcher and his parents they lived at no 19

The original Retort House I referred to in Keith's other submission is on this photo,whilst the New larger one has not even been started. The new one would have been on the clear ground to the right of the large rectangular building in the upper left of
the photo.

What's the dark square towards the bottom left? Is it a bowling green?

It is stey it was out of use by about 1970 we used to play football on it

The old turntable is visible too. Just across the railway line from Westwood Cars.

Well spotted on the Turntable. As a small boy in the late 1950s i remember seeing this and wondering why no engines were using it. Anybody any idea when this was last used ?

Incidentally i can still recall vividly lying in bed at night listening to the sound of steam trains and the wagons clanking - we lived just off Darlington Street East - which I found very comforting.
