A christmas card sent by Bob & Lil, my Uncle and Aunt. Not dated but I guess 50s or 60s.

The car on the right is a Triumph Vitesse built from 1962-1971, so you can rule out the 50s Mick.

No longer a pub. Now owned by the garage next door with a couple of rooms as a café.

Nice photo Mick, Austin A40 and a Triumph Herald, the fron use to lift up on the Herald.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 24th November 2015 at 12:22

The car on the left is a Austin A35 Garry.

Bob Pearce was the landlord at the time of this picture. According to a new sign the Café is to be an Ice Cream parlour

Definitely the 60s. I was gonna say it's a Triumph Herald 13/60 (made from 67 onwards), but also looks like a Vitesse as well, but I would guess at a herald than a Vitesse has likely Heralds were more common. There were quite a lot of car makes in the 50s and 60s which looked almost identical to another model, the one which springs to my mind is the MG Midget and the Austin Healey Sprite, they look idenitical aside from the badge. Of course the Midget was the common and popular model.

Garry, It's an Austin A30. The A30 had the small rear window and the A35 had a larger curved rear window. The A40 was a completely different shape. The other car in the picture is a Triumph Vitesse.

Garry, the Austin is an A35 and, I think from having the small rear window, of pre 1957 vintage.

Comment by: Derek B on 24th November 2015 at 14:25

Sorry Garry, should have said the Austin is an A30, not A35.

Austin A35 and a Triumph Vitesse.

Comment by: Garry on 24th November 2015 at 17:34

Ok Derick B what is the difference with a A30 and A35.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 24th November 2015 at 17:42

Vitesse had twin headlights like this one, the Herald had single headlights.

The car is a Austin A30 with a small rear window.
The A35 had a larger rear window and a painted front grille. Where as the A30 had a Chrome grille.
The other car is a Triumph Herald.

Agree with Colin, does look like a Vitesse than a Herald as the Vitesse had two headlights on each side rather than the one.

Comment by: Dave on 25th November 2015 at 14:37

It's a Triumph Vitesse Mk 1, 1600cc, possibly 2000cc if a later model.

This used to be the bus stop for Park Hall when going on the 125 from Wigan, done it many times.

Neither car has a year suffix on the number plate so they must have been made and registered pre 1963 when the system was introduced, the letter A being added to the number in that year.
