I remember playing on one of those, it was my friends, Pat Winstanley. Look how clean those pavements are!
just wonderfull johnalan !
I had one too, it was pale turquoise I think. My dad bought it for me in Walsall in 1955. I loved the little boot.
Yes , very impressive bike. Strong and beautifully engineered. Mine arrived as a fantastic CHRISTMAS present in 1949 . It was well used but cared for and eventually passed through to younger members of my family .The trunk was used to carry all manner of things . Our cat was a regular passenger. Snowy was pure white and great fun .Travelling at full pelt she seemed to love the corners and would lean out, wind in her face . She was never put in the boot . She simply jumped in and waited for the fun to begin. My Flyer was blue and is such a clear memory for me . Seems just a moment away but I'm now in my 70's.
I remember very clearly seeing it in BINKS of Lincoln. They were situated just off the high street and quite close to the Brayford Pool . Never imagined it would become a Christmas present and leave such great memories . We had lived in the East End but once Dad was back from the RAF(India) we lived in a little village in Lincolnshire . Very basic lifestyle but good honest and loving . Still have a treasured photo taken in 1949 . I'm on the road outside 2 Kexby Rd.Glentworth Lincs and it would have been one of my first rides . I'm very sure it was actually called a Gresham Flyer and would have been made by ABERDALE in North LONDON N8. The ROLLS ROYCE of Trikes !
Oooooops ..... I should have said that the Gresham Flyer was manufactured by Aberdale Cycle Co , North London N18. Not N8
