A group of five customers photographed outside the Crispin Arms in 1951. Standing from left to right, Bill Simms, Peter Clarke and a "Burgess". At the front I'm afraid I have no name for the gentleman on the left but the one next to him is another Burgess. Bill Simms told us that he went to the very first FA Cup Final at Wembley in 1923 and like many others gained admittance by having to climb over the walls to get in to watch the final.
Keith,,
not sure if chap front row left is a very distant relative of mine Harry Pomfret...live in Forge St just over the border in Ince,,he was my uncle,s brother

I think after 7 years you are overdue a reply Jim. Sorry for the delay I've only just seen your posting. The name you mention does ring a bell as they say, so you are probably correct. The gentleman next to Harry is Robert (Bob) Burgess b.1906. If I'm right (there were quite a few Burgesses who frequented the Crispin), then he lived in Lorne Street and was a Colliery packer, his wife was called Ethel I'm told. Notice how they are all in their Sunday best, standards had to be maintained and they were.
