Wigan Album

This is my Father in the body makers apron and standing by the rear door of the recently completed AEC Regal single deck bus/coach for Maxways of Birkenhead. Father learnt his trade (5 year Apprentice) at the LMS train works at Wolverton where my Grandpa was an engine driver. Father always talked about working on the Royal train coaches that were kept at the works and kept in working order. At the age of 20 having completed his apprenticeship, the railway company let him go as he would have been on a working mans' pay then. He left home to find work in the bus building industry hence his move to Maidstone then Wigan and ended up back at Northern Counties in the 1950's designing buses.
