I'm Ben Turner's great grandson and have four old photographs of Ben Turner shops. this one is particularly of its time, with the charabanc trip, but i have no date for it: i'm guessing 1920. i'd love to know exactly where it is.

Nick Hampson - the photo was taken in Woodcock Street, which ran between Market Street and Hope St.
The tall ornate building to the left of your great grandfather's shop was a cold store, and later Crank and Burton's plumbing supplies/builder's merchants.

Posted under “Places” and then “Woodcock Street” by Ron Hunt, number 31977.

I've seen the 'Rowntree's Chocolates' poster elsewhere. It appears as being a 1923 printing; the lady appearing in a lemon top, and her friend in a striped blazer.

The cold store was part of Ashton's fishmongers. My mother worked there in the 1950's and my uncle drove a lorry to Fleetwood for ice in the 1930's.
