From an album of Victorian and Edwardian photographs that belonged to Catherine Gore (born Wigan 1853, who spent her childhood in Crooke). Photograph may show her nephew, James Morris(son of Henry Morris and Catherine's sister, Mary Ann), who in 1901 was a carter. There seems to be a notice to the man's left that mentions Hindley and a (?)fire insurance plaque with the words "Appley Bridge". Can anyone shed light on where it may have been taken, etc?

I think this could be a Company's advertisement card - the card's rounded corners look a bit snazzy, too.

Mary, i see you have a question mark after Elizabeth Cheetham. A James Morris DID marry an Elizabeth Cheetham at Wigan Parish Church at the end of 1903. Sorry, but I can't help with the location.

Thanks, Philip G. I hadn't thought of the photograph being an advertisement. Would love to know which firm (a railway/tram company? (I can see what appears to be a tramline in the bottom right-hand corner.) The gilt-edged mount may just have been the standard form used when ordering reprints as I suspect that this was reprinted for "Aunt Catherine" if I'm right in thinking that this is James Morris. The back of the photo is blank, i.e. no studio details.

Thanks for your kind response, Mary. I must say, though, the photo's blank reverse was a bit of a disappointment when trying to identify the situation, as providers usually have something of the 'giving ethic' printed on the flip-side of such items. Whatever, those two horses must have had pulling power of quite a different kind - just look at the size of their hooves!

Thanks, Roy. I suspect that James Morris and Elizabeth Cheetham were married in a Methodist Church; records not yet available on LAN-OPC site.
