Hi Fred. Do you know how long ago the photograph was taken. It must have been prior to 1969, when Wigan Borough was amalgamated with the Lancashire Constabulary. I can’t bring David to mind.

I was in the same year as Dave at WGS, he would have left in 1960 unless he stayed on. must have been taken in the early 60's

Albert - Dave Whitter himself commented on another post (Item #: 7093 in the 'Police' album), and stated that he served in Wigan Borough between 1963 and 1966.

Thank you MickLD. I was serving at Pemberton in 1963, Mick, that is why I never came into contact with him. Very affable inspector, Basil Whittaker. Married a Wigan Borough W.P.C. (Christine). One time I met Christine, and Basil , at a service station, on the M6. I was on my way back to Kent. They were travelling back to Wales, where they had a post office.

Basil Whittaker a little before my time, Albert, but I know what you mean about serving at Pemberton. When I was up there, we were often unaware of postings and arrivals and departures at Wigan.

MickLD. Apparently Insp. Whittaker played some official part in relation to the Nuremberg trials.

David told me that he joined the Force in 1963
